MKD’s Mishing Language Learning Program: Reviving Our Mother Tongue

The Mishing Kebang Delhi (MKD) organized a Mishing Language Learning Program starting on 27th July 2025, with active participation from members of MKD and the Mising Students’ Association of Delhi (MISAD). The initiative aimed to promote learning and appreciation of the Mishing language, its script, and its cultural heritage.

The sessions saw the participation of executive members of MAK Migang — Harinarayan Pegu, Kalinath Pangging, Someswar Kaptak, and Dushyanta Norah — who also served as faculty members for the online sessions. Their guidance made the classes engaging and insightful for all participants.

A total of seven weekend online sessions were conducted, covering key aspects of the Mishing script, pronunciation, and grammar, along with discussions on the language’s heritage and historical development. The interactive online format encouraged members to learn collaboratively while strengthening their connection to their linguistic roots.

The final session, held on 14th September 2025, marked the successful conclusion of the program. Participants appreciated the sessions for their informative content and the opportunity to reconnect with the Mishing language in a structured and friendly setting.

The program was arranged and coordinated by Mrs. Lina Doley, whose initiative helped bring members of MKD and MISAD together for this meaningful effort. Her contribution ensured the program was well-organized and fruitful for all involved.

Overall, the Mishing Language Learning Program served as a valuable platform to celebrate and preserve the community’s linguistic identity, inspiring continued efforts toward promoting the Mishing language and culture.
